"I feel honored to provide health care services to my friends, neighbors and Island community on Kauai. Each interaction between myself and others is a gift and an educational opportunity for us. I was frustrated by "traditional" western medicine and the need to keep patients moving through the system which is why I have decided to venture out on my own and create a care system that is in line with my values and the goals of my professional practice."
My name is Marghee Maupin. I am a family nurse practitioner. I have worked in health care for more than 30 years. The care I offer is similar to the care offered by doctors. Nurse Practitioners have an additional focus on patient education, therapeutic relationships, disease prevention and health promotion. Your concerns about your health are at the top of my agenda. I am your partner and advocate in health care.
I started this business because I have been disillusioned by the current model of care that often requires long waiting periods, taking too much time off from work, waiting next to others who are often contagious and being rushed along because the clinic is so busy. I want to get to know you. My plan is to not hurry your care.
I want to know your strengths and weaknesses, your barriers to good health, what is troubling you and what solutions we can come to as a team. With your permission, I will consult with specialists and refer as needed with the goal of the best care possible.
I will conduct exams, order labs, other diagnostic tests and I can prescribe your medications and other treatments. I can also help you manage your chronic and episodic illnesses. I will help you understand your illnesses, your lab results (and other tests) and how best to improve your health. I will work with you at designing an individualized self-care program and we will start with what is most important to you and at your pace.
I hold an interest in functional medicine, which focuses on the contributing factors of your illness and how best to strengthen your body and spirit. It uses food as medicine, herbs, meditation, yoga and other health building practices to improve your health. I also hope that you will share your healing practices with me so that I can widen my understanding and treatment options for patients. The type of care that is offered will be the best fit for you towards health promotion and disease prevention.
To Your Health, Marghee
